ClickUp Alternatives: What to Look For Beyond the Price
Many Brazilian teams leave ClickUp for the same reasons: complexity, the dollar exchange rate and lack of local support. The criteria for choosing your next tool without repeating the problem, and the options worth a trial.
People looking for a ClickUp alternative rarely want "another tool just like it." They want to get away from a specific problem: the setup that never ends, the dollar invoice that changes every month, support that answers in another time zone and another language. If you switch tools without writing down which of those problems is yours, the odds of repeating the pain with a different logo are high.
This article isn't a ranking. It's a set of criteria for deciding, followed by how Tasskee answers each one. For a direct, item-by-item comparison, there's a dedicated page, linked at the end.
Seven criteria for choosing your next tool
1. How long until someone outside the field creates their first task
Ask someone from outside the project, preferably the most resistant person, to create a task, assign it to a colleague, and set a due date, with no help. Time it. If the answer is "I need a twenty-minute explanation," adoption will depend on constant nagging, and nagging wears people out.
2. What currency you pay in, and how
A tool billed in dollars on a credit card brings two variables your budget doesn't control: the day's exchange rate and the IOF (Brazil's tax on international purchases). That isn't a flaw, it's a characteristic. What matters is knowing that the invoice amount in reais only shows up afterward. For finance, that weighs a lot; for someone paying with a corporate card who doesn't care about a swing of a few reais, not so much. If you need boleto or PIX with an invoice, confirm it on the pricing page before anything else: on monday.com, for example, the page shows card and PayPal; on the published plans of ClickUp, Asana, and Trello, billing is in dollars. On Tasskee, billing is in reais, by card on the Start and Pro plans, and by boleto or PIX with an invoice on Max.
3. The plan that has what you need, not the one in the storefront
The price shown in the spotlight is almost never the plan that solves your case. List the five things the tool is useless without (schedule with dependencies, workload report per person, form for clients, time tracking, automation) and find out which plan each one lives on. The real cost is that plan's price multiplied by the people who will actually join. We did that math with real numbers in how much ClickUp, monday, Asana, and Trello cost in reais for 5, 10, and 20 people.
4. Support language and hours
Find out before the first incident: does support answer in Portuguese? During Brazilian business hours? Through which channel? A translated interface guarantees none of that. If your operation stops when the tool breaks, that answer weighs more than any feature.
5. How AI is charged for
There are two models. In the first, the tool sells AI as a per-user add-on or in credit packs. In the second, you connect your own key from a provider and pay for usage directly to them. In ClickUp, AI (ClickUp Brain) is a paid per-user add-on; in Tasskee, AI uses the customer's own provider key (OpenAI, Gemini, or Claude), with no credits and no markup. If AI is part of your work plan, compare this item carefully: it changes the bill more than it seems. We go into the details in AI credits or your own key.
6. What happens with outside clients and vendors
Does someone who follows the project without working on it take up a paid seat? In Tasskee, a client who follows along through the guest portal doesn't take up a seat. In agencies, construction, and consulting, where there are a lot of outside people, this rule changes the budget more than the price difference per user.
7. The way out
Test the export while you're still in the trial period. And ask what happens when the plan ends: does your data stay visible? A tool that holds your data hostage the day you leave is a risk that doesn't show up in a feature comparison. In Tasskee, if you don't pick a plan at the end of the trial, you drop to Free and nothing is deleted.
With Tasskee, the 15-day trial unlocks all of Pro, no credit card. Bring in the tasks from a real project and see in one afternoon whether the criteria above are met.
See plans and pricingWhy Tasskee meets these criteria
Brazilian-made, with product, support, and billing in Portuguese and pricing in reais: Start at R$ 19 and Pro at R$ 39 per user/month, with Free for up to 3 users and 3 projects. Sign-up already asks about your field (development, engineering, marketing, accounting, support) and hands you a project with statuses, workstreams, and sample tasks, so the first task goes out in minutes.
List, board, calendar, and Gantt schedule are views of the same task. There are tickets with a queue and SLA deadlines, customer service on WhatsApp with an AI attendant (add-on per channel), billable and payable hours with margin per project, and AI with your own provider key, no credits. People who follow along through the guest portal don't take up a seat, and if you don't pick a plan at the end of the trial, you drop to Free without losing anything.
When the tool needs to grow with you
Tasskee is Brazilian, and the people who answer your questions are the same team that builds it. Need a feature that doesn't exist yet? The request goes straight to the people who decide what goes into the product, with no international support queue. And to connect Tasskee to your company's other systems, there's a REST API, webhooks, and an MCP server, which lets the AI you already use operate projects and tasks.
How to turn the criteria into a decision
- Write your reason for leaving in one sentence. "Complexity," "exchange rate," and "support" lead to different choices.
- Pick two candidates at most. Testing five tools at once guarantees none of them gets tested properly.
- Set up a real project in each one, with three people, for two weeks.
- Measure what matters: did the question you ask most often get easier? Did anyone stop updating? How many times did you have to explain the screen?
- Calculate the cost of the plan you'd actually use, in reais, with the real number of people.
If your doubt is between board and schedule when evaluating, the discussion on Kanban or Gantt helps separate what you need from what looks good in the demo. And the checklist for choosing project management software offers the test questions in list form.
The direct comparison with ClickUp
To see the two tools side by side, with prices and features, the ClickUp alternative page has the full table, a note with the source and the date the figures were checked, and a step-by-step migration guide. Prices change; that's why the checked date is always kept in view.
